Overcoming Fear by Living By Faith

By Pastor David P. Ward

Psalm 118:6

King James Version (KJV)

6The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

1. Fear does not have the power or the right o usurp authority over a born again believer who has made a decision to walk FREE FROM FEAR.

Isaiah 43:1-2

King James Version (KJV)

1But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

2When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

a. ŇFear not!Ó This phrase appears in the Bible over 66 times!

2. When God tells you not to fear, you can know He will supply the power and the ability to OVERCOME fear.

3. There is nothing that Satan can bring at you that GodŐs Word alive in your life cannot overcome! We learn to overcome fear, which is of the devil, by learning THE SPIRITUAL LAW OF REPROCALS.

a. reciprocal = inversely related or proportional, opposite. Corresponding but reversed or inverted.

Romans 8:2

King James Version (KJV)

2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

This verse sets out 2 SPIRITUAL LAWS:

a) THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE (IN CHRIST JESUS)

b) THE LAW OF SIN AND DEATH ( IN SATAN)

4. These 2 laws are reciprocals.

a. corresponding by reversed or inverted.

b. North and South are reciprocals. They correspond to one another because they are both directions on a compass; but South is the reciprocal of North. Exact opposites of each other.

5. When we understand the principle of reciprocals, we will have insight into how Satan operates.

a. Satan is not as powerful as God.

b. Satan is a fallen angel. Like all angelic beings, he has no power to create.

c. Satan can only work with things already created.

d. Had Satan ever come up with anything original, that thing would be a truth.

John 8:44

King James Version (KJV)

44Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

a. Jesus said Satan is a counterfeiter, a deceiver, there is no truth in him.

6. When Adam and Eve were created; they were to have dominion over all the earth.

Genesis 1:26-28

26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

a. Adam disobeyed and committed high treason against God.

b. Satan then received AdamŐs authority over the spiritual laws that governed the earth.

Satan just perverted the spiritual laws that were already in place.

7. Sin was not a new law. It was righteousness perverted.

* DEATH was LIFE perverted

* HATE was LOVE perverted.

* FEAR was FAITH perverted.

8. The faith, the dominion that God gave to Adam was meant for him to rule, and to sustain his life.

a. When Satan gained control, he became the god of this world (system) and the force of faith that Adam and Eve walked in became perverted. (2 Corinthians 4:4)

2 Corinthians 4:4

4In whom the god of this world (kosmos) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

(kosmos) = meaning the world system, Babylonian system, not the planet earth. Satan does not own the planet earth, God does.

9. THE LAW OF SIN AND DEATH began to operate not just through Adam and Eve, but in all of the animals, and all of creation.

.a. This LAW OF SIN & DEATH is how we can relate to fear and how it works.

10. After Adam sinned in the Garden, FEAR became the dominant FORCE in his life. His first words were, ŇI was afraid.Ó (Genesis 3:10)

11. FAITH and FEAR are direct opposites, but they use the same direct CHANNELS to operate.

a. These same channels, the human being, but they produce OPPOSITE RESULTS.

12. THE LAW OF RECIPROCALS works in every area of our lives.

a. GodŐs Word is true; there is no truth in Satan.

b. Satan is a counterfeit to God in every situation.

c. The opposite end of NORTH is always SOUTH.

d. The opposite end of LOVE is always HATE.

13. If SATAN came come with WORRY, GOD can come with His PEACE.

a. If Satan come with sickness, God can come with health.

SATAN COMES WITH: GOD COMES WITH:

POVERTY PROSPERITY

HATE LOVE

ERROR TRUTH

FEAR/TORMENT FAITH

MENTAL ILLNESS SOUNDNESS OF MIND

14. There is nothing that Satan can throw at you the FAITH in God canŐt overcome!

WE CHOOSE AS CHRISTIANS WHAT LAW OR PRINCIPLE WE WILL OPERATE UNDER!

1. The FORCE we know today as FEAR, originally was AdamŐs FAITH.

a. When Adam bowed his knee to Satan, he put into motion the LAW OF SIN AND DEATH.

2. When Adam and Eve sinned, they really didnŐt know how to die. All Adam knew was GodŐs way of thinking because his mind knew God.

a. His spirit knew God.

b. His body knew God.

c. Spirit, soul, and body Adam knew God. So can we! Knowing God and being in fellowship with Him had the capacity to produce in your life all that God is!

1 Thessalonians 5:23

23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Psalm 1:1-3

1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

James 1:17

17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

John 10:10

10The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

2. The more we come to know God, the more we will delight in His laws! These scriptures show us the power in operating under the LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS.

Romans 8:1-4

1There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

3For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

4That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

3. The more we come to know God, the more we will produce health, prosperity, life, light, and love! What a deal! What a celebration when we come into the NEW CREATION!

2 Corinthians 5:17

17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

4. Adam separated himself from LIFE and it produced DEATH in his spirit, soul, and body. Adam died spiritually first. It took 900 years later to kill his body.

5. The reciprocal of LIFE is DEATH. As long as Adam obeyed God, he lived. Turning from life was turning toward death.

a. Adam moved under the power/force of death. This produced all the forces that the LAW OF SIN AND DEATH bring.

b. manifestations of sickness and disease, fear and torment, jealousy and envy, and evey form of anger were set into motion.

6. All these forms of fear were a result of sin.

What overpowers the law of sin and death?

1. Why does the Christian not have to operate under the LAE OF SIN AND DEATH?

Because of the power of the BLOOD OF JESUS!

a. The same thing that happened to Adam, had to happen to Jesus. Adam committed high treason and fell into sin. Adam gave away his position in God, and a Man had to buy it back! Jesus fell from LIFE to DEATH and became sin for us, who knew no sin; so that we might be made the righteousness of God in Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:21

21For he (Father God) hath made him Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Romans 5:1-19

King James Version (KJV)

1Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Justified = Ňjust as if IŐd never sinned.Ó

justified = Ňmade righteousÓ

2By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

3And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

4And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

5And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

6For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

11And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

12Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

13(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

14Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

15But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one (Adam) many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

16And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

17For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

18Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

19For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Romans 5:1-19

The Message (MSG)

Romans 5

Developing Patience

1-2By entering through faith into what God has always wanted to do for us—set us right with him, make us fit for him—we have it all together with God because of our Master Jesus. And that's not all: We throw open our doors to God and discover at the same moment that he has already thrown open his door to us. We find ourselves standing where we always hoped we might stand—out in the wide open spaces of God's grace and glory, standing tall and shouting our praise.

3-5There's more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we're hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we're never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can't round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!

6-8Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn't, and doesn't, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn't been so weak, we wouldn't have known what to do anyway. We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.

9-11Now that we are set right with God by means of this sacrificial death, the consummate blood sacrifice, there is no longer a question of being at odds with God in any way. If, when we were at our worst, we were put on friendly terms with God by the sacrificial death of his Son, now that we're at our best, just think of how our lives will expand and deepen by means of his resurrection life! Now that we have actually received this amazing friendship with God, we are no longer content to simply say it in plodding prose. We sing and shout our praises to God through Jesus, the Messiah!

The Death-Dealing Sin, the Life-Giving Gift

12-14You know the story of how Adam landed us in the dilemma we're in— first sin, then death, and no one exempt from either sin or death. That sin disturbed relations with God in everything and everyone, but the extent of the disturbance was not clear until God spelled it out in detail to Moses. So death, this huge abyss separating us from God, dominated the landscape from Adam to Moses. Even those who didn't sin precisely as Adam did by disobeying a specific command of God still had to experience this termination of life, this separation from God. But Adam, who got us into this, also points ahead to the One who will get us out of it.

15-17Yet the rescuing gift is not exactly parallel to the death-dealing sin. If one man's sin put crowds of people at the dead-end abyss of separation from God, just think what God's gift poured through one man, Jesus Christ, will do! There's no comparison between that death-dealing sin and this generous, life-giving gift. The verdict on that one sin was the death sentence; the verdict on the many sins that followed was this wonderful life sentence. If death got the upper hand through one man's wrongdoing, can you imagine the breathtaking recovery life makes, sovereign life, in those who grasp with both hands this wildly extravagant life-gift, this grand setting-everything-right, that the one man Jesus Christ provides?

18-19Here it is in a nutshell: Just as one person did it wrong and got us in all this trouble with sin and death, another person did it right and got us out of it. But more than just getting us out of trouble, he got us into life! One man said no to God and put many people in the wrong; one man said yes to God and put many in the right.

Read that last phrase again!

ŇÉone man said yes to God and put many in the rightÉÓ

Hence, THE LAW OF RECIPROCITY. Adam gave away ManŐs position in the Garden, and Jesus bought it back!

Philippians 2:8

King James Version (KJV)

8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Philippians 2:8

The Message (MSG)

5-8Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn't think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn't claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.

Sin and Death Life and Righteousness

Sickness and Disease Healing and Divine Health

Hate Love

* These Laws are complete opposites.

* These BOUNDARY LINES were crossed 3 times. Adam, life to death. Jesus, life to death. Jesus, death to life.

* Jesus offered Himself as the supreme sacrifice to purchase our freedom from every part of the curse.

Hebrews 2:14-15

King James Version (KJV)

14Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

15And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Hebrews 2:14-15

The Message (MSG)

14-15Since the children are made of flesh and blood, it's logical that the Savior took on flesh and blood in order to rescue them by his death. By embracing death, taking it into himself, he destroyed the Devil's hold on death and freed all who cower through life, scared to death of death.

a. The fear of death is the result of the LAW OF SIN AND DEATH.

THE 2 REASONS WHY JESUS CAME

#1 To completely paralyze Satan who had the power of death.

#2 To deliver mankind from the powers of darkness; all those who were held to the bondage of slavery to sin, sickness, and disease.

2 Corinthians 5:17

King James Version (KJV)

17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature (creation): old things (sinful nature) are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Romans 5:12

King James Version (KJV)

12Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Romans 6:14

King James Version (KJV)

14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

FEAR = SATANŐS #1 WEAPON

Romans 8:15

King James Version (KJV)

15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

1. When you were born again, your human spirit received RIGHTSTANDING WITH GOD. All the spiritual forces Adam lived in before the Fall was given to you!

b. All the GIFTS/BLESSINGS in Christ Jesus was restored back to Man when God raised Jesus from the dead! Man must receive what Jesus did on the Cross to receive this GIFT OF RIGHTOUSNESS.

c. Part of our confession in faith on the Lord Jesus Christ is believing the Father raised Jesus from the dead.

Romans 10:9-10

King James Version (KJV)

9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

a. Fear is not a natural force to the born again believer.

b. The reborn human spirit cannot produce fear. It can receive it, act on it, and be choked by it, but the recreated human spirit cannot produce it.

2. Satan has lost his power over the born again believer.

3. The NAME OF JESUS always defeats the devil.

a. FAITH will always overcome FEAR.

b. LOVE will always overcome HATE.

c. PROSPERITY will always overcome POVERTY.

4. FAITH will keep you well, FEAR will make you sick.

5. FEAR activates Satan like FAITH activates God.

FEAR WILL CRIPPLE A MIND.

FEAR WILL STOP A HEART.

FEAR MAY EVEN CHANGE THE COLOR OF YOUR HAIR.

6. FEAR is a Satanic force that works against Man to destroy him.

7. FAITH is a creative force the God uses to build and uplift.

a. FAITH helps, FEAR hurts.

8. Satan always challenges the promises of God by using fear.

2 Timothy 1:7

King James Version (KJV)

7For God hath not given us the spirit of fear (phobia); but of power(exousia), and of love(agape), and of a sound mind.

fear (phobia)= Mankind has many phobias:

The fear of people.

The fear of change.

The fear of the future.

The fear of closed any places.

The fear of heights.

The fear of the dark.

The fear of spiders.

The fear of bridges.

These are just a few phobias listed that are offspringŐs of THE LAW OF SIN AND DEATH.

9. Satan will try desperately to convince you that your faith wont work.

FAITH IS THE VERY SUBSTANCE OF GODŐS POWER

1. Satan cannot touch the born again believer that stands on the promises of God.

Hebrews 11:1-3

1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

2For by it the elders obtained a good report.

3Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Hebrews 11:1-3

The Message (MSG)

Hebrews 11

Faith in What We Don't See

1-2The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It's our handle on what we can't see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.

3By faith, we see the world called into existence by God's word, what we see created by what we don't see.

2. Faith is a SPIRITUAL FORCE.

3. Faith is GodŐs creative power.

4. Faith is the RAW MATERIAL of things hoped for, it is the TITLE DEED of things not seen (with your physical eye).

5. What you feed your spirit is what your soul (mind, will & emotions) will operate on.

6. Your SPIRIT LIFE derives its power from GodŐs Word the way your automobile derives its power from gasoline.

7. A lot of Christians talk FEAR and donŐt even realize it. We have been trained by THE LAW OF SIN & DEATH to operate in the negative.

8. We can choose to operate under THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT IN CHRIST JESUS instead of the LAW OF SIN & DEATH if we will choose to get a hold of our THOUGHTS, SPEECH, AND ACTIONS!
