REDEEMED FROM THE CURSE - PART 2 - SICKNESS

Galatians 3:13

King James Version (KJV)

13Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

a. The curse of the law can be divided into 3 parts = Poverty, Sickness, & Spiritual Death.

b. Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law by His own blood.

c. Jesus literally became the curse for us that we could receive the BLESSINGS OF ABRAHAM.

Galatians 3:14-16

14That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

15Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.

16Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

Galatians 3:14-16

The Message (MSG)

13-14Christ redeemed us from that self-defeating, cursed life by absorbing it completely into himself. Do you remember the Scripture that says, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"? That is what happened when Jesus was nailed to the cross: He became a curse, and at the same time dissolved the curse. And now, because of that, the air is cleared and we can see that Abraham's blessing is present and available for non-Jews, too. We are all able to receive God's life, his Spirit, in and with us by believing—just the way Abraham received it.

15-18Friends, let me give you an example from everyday affairs of the free life I am talking about. Once a person's will has been ratified, no one else can annul it or add to it. Now, the promises were made to Abraham and to his descendant. You will observe that Scripture, in the careful language of a legal document, does not say "to descendants," referring to everybody in general, but "to your descendant" (the noun, note, is singular), referring to Christ. This is the way I interpret this: A will, earlier ratified by God, is not annulled by an addendum attached 430 years later, thereby negating the promise of the will. No, this addendum, with its instructions and regulations, has nothing to do with the promised inheritance in the will.

What is The Blessing of Abraham?

Deuteronomy 28:1-15

1And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

2And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

3Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

4Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

5Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.

6Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

7The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.

8The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

9The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.

10And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee.

11And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

12The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

13And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

14And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

15But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:

Jesus redeemed us from the CURSE OF SICKNESS

Deuteronomy 28:15-22

King James Version (KJV)

15But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:

16Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.

17Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.

18Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

19Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

20The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.

21The LORD shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest to possess it.

22The LORD shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.

Deuteronomy 28:35

King James Version (KJV)

35The LORD shall smite thee in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore botch that cannot be healed, from the sole of thy foot unto the top of thy head.

Deuteronomy 28:58-61

King James Version (KJV)

58If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD;

59Then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.

60Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee.

61Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.

a. We can see by reading the Scriptures out of Deuteronomy that SICKNESS is without a doubt part of the CURSE OF THE LAW.

b. Most translations read, “The Lord shall smite thee.” Dr. Robert Young, Author of HINTS TO BIBLE INTERPRETATION points out that in the original Hebrew, the verb used here is in the permissive sense.

c. The above verse should read, “The Lord will ALLOW you to be smitten.” The Lord will allow the plagues to come upon you.

d. Another verse like this in the Bible is, Isaiah 45:7.

Isaiah 45:7

7I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

a. Does God create evil? NO! That would make God unjust. God PERMITS or ALLOWS evil, but He does NOT create it. This is why we can’t just READ the Bible! We need to STUDY the Bible.

b. If God created evil, He has no right to judge Man for sinning.

c. There is a vast difference between COMMISSION and PERMISSION.

d. The original Hebrew in these Scriptures is in the PERMISSIVE sense, not the CAUSITIVE sense.

e. CAUSITIVE = meaning, producing the effect

f. When God’s people broke the Commandments; they literally moved themselves from under the umbrella of God’s protection. Their sin and disobedience brought on all of these dreadful plagues.

Deuteronomy Chapter 28 told of the dreadful plagues of sickness and disease.

1. Pestilence, Consumption (Tuberculosis)

2. Fever - all types of fever such as Typhus, Scarlet, Typhoid, & Small Pox

3. Inflammation - extreme burning, the botch of Egypt, Emords

4. Scab - all skin diseases

5. In Verse 61, every sickness, every plague which is not written in the Book of the Law.

6. In Verse 22, Mildew, which is Liver disease

7. God’s Word declares sickness as a CURSE and HEALTH as a blessing!

a. Sickness is a THIEF and a ROBBER!

8. Healing is in God’s plan of REDEMPTION. Sin caused the CURSE to come and Man but Jesus Christ bore the penalty for us!

Isaiah 53:4-5

King James Version (KJV)

4Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

a. Matthew quotes a portion of Isaiah 8:17, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the Prophet saying, “Himself took our infirmities and bare our sicknesses.”

1 Peter 2:24

King James Version (KJV)

24Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

1 Peter 2:24

The Message (MSG)

21-25This is the kind of life you've been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step.

He never did one thing wrong,
Not once said anything amiss.
They called him every name in the book and he said nothing back. He suffered in silence, content to let God set things right. He used his servant body to carry our sins to the Cross so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way. His wounds became your healing. You were lost sheep with no idea who you were or where you were going. Now you're named and kept for good by the Shepherd of your souls.

CHRIST REDEEMED ME FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW

AS HE HUNG ON THAT SHAMEFUL TREE

AND ALL THAT IS WORSE CONTAINED IN THE CURSE

BY JESUS HAS SET ME FREE

NOT UNDER THE CURSE, NOT UNDER THE CURSE

THE PRICE HE PAID FOR ME

FOR SICKNESS, I’VE HEALTH, FOR POVERTY, WEALTH

SINCE JESUS HAS RANSOMED ME!
