The Fruits of the Spiritual Man

By David P. Ward

There are 3 types of Christians:

1 Corinthians 3:1

King James Version (KJV)

1And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

1. babes = This is where every believer starts. There is nothing wrong with a babe in Christ. We just aren’t suppose to stay there! Baby Christians are those who are young in the Lord and are still only digesting the milk of the Word.

1 Peter 2:2

2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

2. carnal

= carnos, flesh ruled, sense ruled. This believer has had time enough to grow out of babyhood into a childhood, but is slower in spiritual growth and has childhood characteristics.

(moody, selfish, curious, emotional, etc.)

1 Corinthians 3:3

3For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as (mere) men?

3. The Spiritual Man

= knows what belongs to him. He understands the power is in the Blood of Jesus. He understands the benefits of his salvation. (Psalm 100:3)

The spiritual man knows that his victory in this life is contingent upon knowing what the Word of God says and being willing to ready, study, and meditate on the Word of God.

Psalm 91

King James Version (KJV)

1He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

John 15:7

The Message (MSG)

5-8"I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you're joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can't produce a thing. Anyone who separates from me is deadwood, gathered up and thrown on the bonfire. But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon. This is how my Father shows who he is—when you produce grapes, when you mature as my disciples.

The word ABIDE means, “to dwell, remain fixed in a certain place.” If you ABIDE somewhere that is talking about the place where you live. When I go to Florida to visit family and friends, I don’t ABIDE there, I am just staying for a few days.

Jesus is telling His disciples that if they will spend time ABIDING in the Word of God, then the Word will begin to make its home in them.

One of the signs-fruits of a spiritual man is:

1. The Word of God constantly speaks to him all through the course of the day. (Psalm 119:130)

2. The Word of God is his final authority.

3. The Word produces a joy & fulfillment that the world cannot give.

4. The Word produces a stability even in times of trouble. (Psalm 91, Isaiah 33:6)

5. The Word produces a faith that works by love.

Matthew 6:33

King James Version (KJV)

33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

SEEK = to go after with intense effort
